From Local Roots to National Reach: 16-Year-Old Pranav Scales “Bharat Karigar” Across India

What began as a focused grassroots effort in Lucknow has now evolved into a rapidly

expanding national movement. Founded by student entrepreneur Pranav MittalBharat

Karigar is redefining how India supports and scales its traditional artisan

economy—transforming a local intervention into a structured, pan-India model of

empowerment.

Driven by Pranav Mittal’s vision to address deep-rooted inefficiencies in the artisan sector,

the initiative was initially launched to tackle challenges faced by crafts such as chikankari

and zardozi. These included low financial literacy, restricted market access, and heavy

dependence on intermediaries. Through extensive primary research and on-ground

engagement, he developed targeted, practical solutions aimed at enabling artisans to

transition into more sustainable and independent economic models.

At the core of Bharat Karigar’s expansion lies a replicable and scalable framework

conceptualised and led by Mittal. The initiative conducts structured workshops in

collaboration with grassroots organisations across multiple states, equipping artisans with

essential skills in financial management, pricing strategies, and digital literacy. By introducing

tools such as social media marketing and online marketplaces, the model empowers

artisans to access customers directly, significantly improving their income potential and

autonomy.

What distinguishes Bharat Karigar is its system-driven approach to scaling impact. Under

Mittal’s leadership, the initiative has developed practical toolkits and built partnerships with

grassroots organisations nationwide, ensuring that its framework can be adopted

consistently across diverse regions—allowing expansion without dilution of quality.

The initiative has gained recognition on national platforms, highlighting the growing

importance of youth-led, research-driven solutions in addressing structural economic

challenges in India’s traditional sectors.

As Bharat Karigar continues to expand its footprint across states, it is not merely preserving

heritage crafts—it is actively reshaping the future of India’s artisan economy. With a strong

foundation built by Pranav Mittal, the initiative stands as a compelling example of how local

innovation, when guided by clear vision and scalable systems, can drive national

transformation.
