What began as a focused grassroots effort in Lucknow has now evolved into a rapidly

expanding national movement. Founded by student entrepreneur Pranav Mittal, Bharat

Karigar is redefining how India supports and scales its traditional artisan

economy—transforming a local intervention into a structured, pan-India model of

empowerment.

Driven by Pranav Mittal’s vision to address deep-rooted inefficiencies in the artisan sector,

the initiative was initially launched to tackle challenges faced by crafts such as chikankari

and zardozi. These included low financial literacy, restricted market access, and heavy
